i live!

melayneseahawk: (plot)
returning to lj as of 1 aug. life is still completely insane, but it should settle down one way or another very soon, and then i'll be able to talk about it. that being said, just know that i'm a) not dead and b) still around, so feel free to bug me if needed.

also! [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon sign-ups are live, and will be until the last week of the month. spread the word and sign up, people!
melayneseahawk: (explode)
Not-quite-a-week with the parents turned into week-and-a-half with the parents, but that's not the end of the world. I got to see all my DC friends (including one who is moving to Seattle this month! what is it with me and losing people to Seattle?), and am going to be able to go Israeli dancing twice, so that's pretty neat. Also, Mom and I went to see the Anglo-Saxon Hoard exhibit at the National Geographic Museum, which was amazing. Seriously, if you are in the DC area, you should try to see it, it's really neat, and likely will not be in the US again after the exhibit closes in early March.

Things! are going on in [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer and [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon, and the New Grammarian Drive is still going on for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar, so that's all exciting. [livejournal.com profile] brainofck has taken over as my alpha reader for my [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer, which is awesome; we've already found a solution to one of the major problems I'd been having; naturally, said solution requires research, but isn't that always the case?

Moodwise, I've actually been feeling better the last week or so--minus a teeny tiny breakdown last night--but there's no way of knowing if that's because of the new medicine (it has a flavor! and that flavor is black cherry ick) or because I've been around people this last week, so we shall see if it continues when I'm back on my own in the Burgh. I hope so, I really do. I'm so, so tired of being a lump of sad all the time.
melayneseahawk: (smart girls)
[livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer, the SG-1 Big Bang is in need of artists, vidders, or fanmixers who would be interested in creating something to go along with a Sam/Jack or Tok'ra (Sam/Martouf) story. If you're interested, please check out the story summaries here and claim one!

Claiming is open until May 10.

If you have a pro-shippy flist, please consider posting this in your journal as my Sam/Jack-foo is nonexistent. Thanks!

Survived classes today, despite the random breakouts of Bigotry in two of my classes. Really, I don't know what these people are thinking sometimes.

Happily, the ficathon is on track so far. I've got seven fic outstanding, and they're all set and on schedule for new deadlines. It pleases me. :D

Now, to get caught up on American history notes, start reading for my world music project, and work on those drabbles. There may be porn in the not-too-distant future.

This would all be easier if I wasn't freezing to death.

Final Count

Tuesday, 13 October 2009 10:04
melayneseahawk: (future)
The [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon Master Post is up.

20 fic in
16 extensions granted (I'd forgotten about one), 5 of those fic already in
pinch hitters found for the two drops (so far)
no fic unaccounted for; that is, neither posted nor on an extension

My fic went up with an hour to spare (would have been more if I hadn't gotten into an argument with Mom as I was trying to post).

The fic [livejournal.com profile] green_grrl wrote for me is awesome. I'm going to be a good girl and wait to read the rest until I finish the art hist paper I have to write for Friday.

Knock on wood, but this one has been much less stressful than last year, at least by this point in the process. Remains to be seen if all the remaining fic come in when they're supposed to, but at least I don't have anyone disappearing on me (so far).

progress!

Monday, 12 October 2009 23:13
melayneseahawk: (be afraid)
As of 11:15p:

18 fic in
15 extensions granted (4 already in)
pinch hitter found (we'll see if I need more)

My fic is in.

*breathes*

Now I get to read the one [livejournal.com profile] green_grrl wrote for me.

(Also, I hate my mother, but that's not exactly news.)

countdown

Monday, 12 October 2009 14:49
melayneseahawk: (deadlines)
As of 3p 4p:

11 13 14 fic in
15 extensions granted (2 3 already in)
1 pinch hitter needed (e-mail me if you can help)

My fic is not yet in.

*whimpers*

Completely bored by food options yesterday, so had sickly-sweet flavored water and pop tarts for breakfast. Not exactly that of champions. I need to buy better cereal or baked goods or something.

Had a scare Sunday night: strong chemical smell in the basement. Firefighters came, and I tossed poor JJ in a laundry basket and went to a neighbor's, but turned out it was probably related to the fertilizer the landlord put down that morning. More excitement than I needed, to be sure.

Parents have been pushing for an appointment with my shrink for weeks, so we did that yesterday. Basically, he told them all the stuff that I'd been saying for months. If it sinks in this time, it'll be well worth the effort, though.

Have also handed out five extensions and have one dropout, though I've already found a pinch hit. I'm not going to jinx it. :D

Now to finish up history notes (test again on Friday) and get some writing done.

And speaking of [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon, anyone interested in betaing my fic in a few days?
melayneseahawk: (crisis)
I didn't remember this morning, but Saturday night I dreamed that I missed class on Monday because I slept through. Premonition, or power of suggestion?

Or maybe I just suck.

E-mailed profs (told them I was sick) and shrink. Shrink wants me to lower Seroquel dose (done, but how long until it's out of my system enough to stop working?) and make an appointment to see him. One prof's gotten back to me and told me all I missed was intro stuff, so I'd be fine, but didn't bother to send me the syllabus. Arg.

On the plus side, I did the [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon matches today, with minimal incident. And I think I managed to send them all out without sending them to the wrong person or anything.

Work had better be easy tomorrow, or else I may run screaming into the night.
melayneseahawk: (wench)
Busy day yesterday and today:

Yesterday:
~ send Beat the Geek tests in
~ put up [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon sign-up post and pimp
~ remove all tags from new work clothes
~ clean room
~ pay for fall classes
~ go to Israeli bond office and get check for most recent matured bond (money will pay 'rents back for classes, and then part is going into a CD)
~ send e-mail to [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer beta

Today:
~ make cards for people already signed up for [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon (we've got ten people already!)
~ watch Star Trek: First Contact so it can be returned
~ clean desk
~ call the Maryland Comptroller's Office again (they're very, very stupid)
~ shower
~ make limeade

~ wash floors
~ lots of laundry
melayneseahawk: (ship)
Sign-ups for the [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon opened today. Easy-peasy ficathon. Go sign up.

Yesterday, I went in to work for a two-hour meeting at 8a. The meeting lasted until 11a, and then my boss said "want to work this afternoon?" More fool me, I said yes. So, three hour meeting, plus seven hour shift, and it was just me and the manager from 4p until 7:30p, when we finished prep for the next day, because people had called out. My feet hate me.
melayneseahawk: (crisis)
So, Dad introduced me to Pandora, and I'm in love. (And isn't it sad that it's my father who's introducing me to new tech?) I mean, the channels I've set up so far are very repetitive within the channel, but I think I know what to do to broaden them some. We'll see.

Also, I just realized that weekend I'd been intending to spend doing the [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon match-ups is the same weekend I'll be helping move my bro into his dorm. *facepalm* Move-in is on Saturday, but we may not drive home until Sunday morning. I edited the existing info to say that the assignments will be going out either 31 Aug or 1 Sept, which means that, if I don't have time to do the match-ups over the weekend, I'll have Monday night and Tuesday to finish. And if I'm working those days? Heh, I'm fucked. :(

Copulating Bats!

Wednesday, 22 July 2009 22:03
melayneseahawk: (crazy)
Tossed together a quick essay for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar; hooray for being able to fly by the seat of my pants. Ah, the things I do for this comm.

Also did some writing, and I'm hoping to get some more done before I go to bed. I also have a plotting e-mail to send to [livejournal.com profile] indywind. I think I have a vague idea for how to end the act. Small progress is still progress, right?

Met up with [livejournal.com profile] starkravingsane for dinner, which was fun. Haven't seen her since the winter, I think. As usual, we started out talking about people from high school and wound up talking about politics and the legal system. *sigh* I can't have normal conversations, can I?

This also meant that I was able to give her her Friendship Stimulus thing. I know they're supposed to be handmade, but I just saw this at the store and knew I had to buy it for her:

I thought it would be appropriate for a woman who crosses borders illegally and gets attacked by copulating bats.

A few things.

Managed to complete or otherwise deal with all three things I listed to get done last night, so that's fun. Next week, I get to go to banks to get actual CD rates, and Mum and I have to arrange to get to the Israeli bond office so I can actually get a check for the money from the bond that matured. Wow, moneys, I (sort of) has them.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] tigerlilly2063 has finished playing with the layout for [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon. It looks great!

D&D with [livejournal.com profile] allandaros and the crew tonight, which should be fun. I haven't played D&D since high school, and any tabletop RPG since 2007 or so. I'm looking forward to it.

I think I've banged out some of the "this makes no sense" kinks in what of Act II is already drafted. I still have no idea what I'm doing, but at least I'm not bumbling in the right direction (I hope).

Oh, and I've been assigned an artist, so that's exciting. I think s/he reads this journal, so if you do, a note: [livejournal.com profile] helsmeta has the draft of Act I, and should be sending it to you soon, but you're welcome (and encouraged!) to e-mail me if you have any questions/comments/thoughts/etc. I'm totally open to suggestions. Plus, if we're in contact, I can send you the draft of Act II as soon as it's done, rather than going through her. Also, there's one major structural issue in Act I that might mean a few scenes will be removed, so you might want to know that in advance.

Imma stop rambling now and: finish my salad, finish the scene I'm working on (it's a fun one!), and get as much snippeting down before I leave for the Metro station in an hour. Fun times.

Edit In case anyone's curious, the count for Act II is now up to 8050 and I'm shutting it down so I can leave for the station in a few.

We're getting close to that time of year again, but with all the other ficathons this year (especially [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer), I wanted to gauge people's interest. Please pimp this around; if there are enough people interested in participating, we'll have another go this year!

You can find the poll here.

(X-posted; sorry if you see this a few times.)

Finished the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar first draft. I'll take another look over it and then post it to the editing comm tomorrow. Yay me, actually getting something done before deadline.

I've also washed about half of the nice dishes that we're going to need for the seder on Wednesday night. I'll be loading the rest into the dishwasher after the current load is finished the air dry part of the cycle. I've also taken out the trash, though I'll have to remember to bring the cans back in tomorrow.

The last of the dirty laundry (minus the clothes I'm currently wearing) is in the wash right now, though I've got about four loads to fold. I'll probably let that wait until tomorrow, when I can find something on TV to watch. Mum doesn't even have a DVD player in her bedroom, and I don't think I have the cables necessary to hook my laptop up to the TV.

Tomorrow I've got bathrooms to wash, plus the tub in the non-ensuite bathroom needs to be washed. I need to wash the kitchen floor, too, but I'm probably going to wait to do that until after Dad and I do the Pesach cooking on Tuesday.

I also have to write: A's reference and time writing fiction of some sort. I'd prefer my [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer, since it's the one with a deadline, but I'll take anything right now.

(Plus, I have to pop an extra Xanax and see if I can fill out any of the retroactive leave and short-term disability paperwork for that leave I took in January. I may not work for the Company anymore, but I might get some wage reimbursement for the time off, and right now I'll take any cent I can get. Even if it makes me even crazier to do it.)

It's weird. I actually want to pull an all-nighter tonight. I can get everything done without pushing it, and I can take my pills to help me sleep, but I don't want to. I think that's a bad thing.

Apropos of something other than my lack of sanity, take a look at this week's Sunday Sweets over at Cake Wrecks. Stargate cakes! Hee.

'Rents kidnapped me on Friday, so I've been camped out at their place being fed and--what's the opposite of 'coddled'? Eh, whatever.

They're going with the Geekling to visit one of his potential colleges tomorrow and Monday, but I'm staying at the house so I can finish my laundry and take care of the rabbit (and because I really don't feel like moving). I need to spend most of tomorrow writing ([livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar and [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer and that thing for A), but I think I can manage that if I can just get myself to sit down and do it.

And we know how good I am at that. /snark

Specking of, a meme:

5. TARDINESS: Yes, we all know Mel is shite with deadlines. Sorry, all. I'm going to finish the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar on time if it kills me, though.

Also, I love you all.

melayneseahawk: (play)
Hellish week is hellish.

Got back involved in the monologues. Managed to make a hugely big etiquette-type mistake, but I think I've corrected it. The one problem with having friends who share your brain is that you tend to bring out the worst in each other. A and I are both prone to megalomania. You can imagine where this might lead.

Everything was so bad, actually, that I took a dose of Xanax Thursday night (the goal of the Xanax is for me to take as needed, so I wasn't even abusing my meds), the proceeded to have an argument with someone at 11p, while the Xanax was trying to work, so I was a wreck afterward. Proceeded to sleep most of Friday, and then called my fam on Friday night and asked them to pick me up because I didn't want to be home by myself. Let me tell you, it was the hardest thing I've done in a long time.

But now I'm fed, rested, fed again, and using Mum's comp to catch up with the world-at-large (any typos can be blamed on using a non-laptop keyboard for the first time in a while). Dad's going to take me grocery shopping after the Geekling's fencing lesson, and then they might be kidnapping me for dinner again. Not sure yet.

In other news, Dad asked me to edit an article he and a colleague wrote that will be published in a history of medicine journal. I was amused, and a little appalled to tell him that I actually charge for editing these days. He paid me more than my usual going rate, plus a tip. But I did find three real typos (in six pages), so I guess it was worth it. :P

Goals for today are to finally write my [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar thing (I'm effectively going on hiatus over there after this one, which is probably for the best) and to finish putting the program together. I have to actually write a bio. Good times.
