Despite my concerns and some really gnarly travel problems (Don't fly Frontier. Seriously, don't.), DragonCon was pretty good this year. Nik and I took it way easy, made sure to eat and sleep enough, and came home without catching the Crud, so that's great, too. Highlights of what we saw:

-- two Farscape panels with Gigi Edgley and Lani Tupu, which were fantastic
-- two Whedon actor panels with a combination of Ron Glass, J. August Richards, Emma Caulfield, and Amy Acker, which were also great
-- a Once Upon a Time panel with Sean Maguire, Beverley Elliott, Robbie Kay, and Rebecca Mader, which was also also great
-- a Stargate panel that was not so great
-- an Alt Hist track panel that was supposed to be about crossculturalism and wound up being unfocused (with bonus white-mansplaining!)

Photos of costumes will be up on my facebook eventually.

All in all, a good time was had.

Cold recovery now extended to almost two weeks, plus a bout of depression and a trip to the ER due to an allergic reaction to the Ambien I was given so I could sleep through the coughing. *sigh*

But! Cold is almost gone and allergy is being treated and depressive spiral was broken by the ER trip. So I've gotten more done today than I have in close to two weeks and I actually feel positive about it. I did accomplish one useful thing while I was sick, though, which was to talk to Nik* about FUTURE PLANS. I still don't really know what I'm doing, but I think I've narrowed it down some.

The biggest problem right now is actually DragonCon. For the first time ever, I'm not really enthusiastic about going. Maybe it's because I feel completely disconnected from fandom, or that the things I nerd out about have shifted without me getting involved in the fandom communities for the source material. Maybe it's the depression (though this was actually going on before the most recent bout). Maybe I'm just having issues remembering how much fun con is, and only focusing on the negative stuff (lots of walking, lots of lines, the hard-work side of cosplaying). Nik and I are probably only going to cosplay one day this year, rather than two or three, but does anyone have any ideas for how to get my con nerd mojo back?

*For those not in the know, Nik is my fiancé. If you've met him, you probably know his real name, but Nik is a nickname.

Back from Dragon*Con, obviously, but I was down all week with a lovely blend of a cold and Con Crud, so have only really been functioning the last day or so. Will have lots of fun updates this week, though.

Leaving in a matter of hours, but I still need to pack the pile of costumes, makeup, and shoes that I'm taking with me. Eep.

Have no idea what 'net access will be like, so likely will not be particularly accessible until I get back next week. Have fun; don't burn anything while I'm gone.

Please please, I want people to come with me to some of this stuff. Any of this stuff. Also, if you want to hang out during the times when I'm free (or have something listed as an alternative rather a 1st choice), let me know!

(Yes, there are costume notes in the side. Shut up.)

More of an update tonight, when I have time.

But, damn, the timing on this was shite. I got home midday yesterday and completely crashed. Then I have class--including homework I'll be doing right before; it feels like IB all over again--today, and Rosh Hashanah starts tonight, so there'll be cooking to do when I get home. WTF, calendar?

Be back in about a week. :D :D :D

Ok, so:

Prep is all done for my various staff duties. Yay!

I've started making my packing list, and later today I get to see if I can pack everything in carry-on-able luggage. I do not want to have to check luggage.

My schedule for D*C is here. Yellow is Things I Am Working For The Track. Blue is Track Things I Am Skipping. Green is Track Things I Would Like To Go To. Grey is free time in need of filling. Talk to me if you're going to be at con and you want to arrange some hang-out time.

Ugh, now to watch more SGU and fold laundry.

argh, so close

I have one scene--ONE SCENE--of the [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer left to write, and it is kicking my ass.

It's a heavy exposition scene, so it's boring both to write and read. I've come up with a way to make it a little comic, I think, but I'm not sure I can actually pull it off. It means writing Atlantis characters, which I've never done much of, and writing technobabble, which I always avoid if possible.

Right now I need to just get something on the page. I can fix it later.

On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] allandaros helped me take the space battle climax* from blah to rather awesome, IMNSHO. And, also, it's done, so that's good.

Packing for Atlanta tomorrow; last Dragon*Con staff meeting before con in September. I feel horribly unprepared, but hopefully I'm just being a spaz.

*This is not spoilery. It's like the end of Hamlet: you know where it's going, it's just a matter of getting there. Not that this is anything like Hamlet. Well, minus the PEW PEW. :P

- Dragon*Con: I'll post my pictures, but I've decided that giving a complete rundown of my weekend will likely piss someone off, and I don't really feel the need to rehash it anyway. This one you can ask me about if you want.

- the whole Roman Polanski thing. If you don't know my opinion of the situation, you don't know me, and it can't be good for my blood pressure to write about it in depth.

- filling out paperwork for new doctor I'll be seeing in November, and the fact that having to put my medical history down on paper is fucking depressing.

- the fact that I'm theoretically finished with my involvement with UMD Vagina Monologues (even though I expect S and crew to call me once a week to ask me questions), and it's making me kind of sad.

- the fact that winter is coming and I am perpetually cold.

- the fact that I pretty much hate my life right now, including, but not confined to: my only social life these days is confined to going places with my parents; how much I hate going to class, even the classes I'm theoretically enjoying; etc.

Less depressing content later.

So, I know there are a few more of you here who joined up or are watching because of Dragon*Con, and I'm sorry I've been so boring recently. It gets better, I promise.

But, while you wait, enjoy the following. It's the official video from the Dragon*Con attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of people performing a specific version of the Thriller dance in one place. Final count is 903 people, but they're waiting to hear from Guinness because there were four other attempts right around the same time (it was close to Michael Jackson's birthday). Here's the official video:

Notice the row of Stormtroopers along the back. :D

Oh, Dragon*Con, how much do I love thee? This is totally one of the ways.
