Trying to function on no sleep doesn't get any easier (thank you, brain, you finally start working and then you go into overdrive). Met up with A and Sarah to switch over some of the banking stuff; with any luck (heh), the majority of the Monologues stuff will be tied up with a pretty bow and ready for me to pass to Sarah by the end of the week. I suspect the actual handover will take a little longer--and that Sarah will have a lot of questions for a while--but it's not like I really have anything more important to do, right?

I'm really looking forward to actually having a work scheduled, though. I'm getting really tired of playing the "Can you work this shift...this afternoon?" "Ye-ah..." game. Really, really tired. But it's money, or it will be eventually, so that's some small comfort.

While I wasn't sleeping last night, I started and finished Robin McKinley's Dragonhaven. It's an interesting story (it's certainly different, which is something), but it's got the worst narrative style ever. Imagine a memoir being written by someone who doesn't quite understand the importance of sentence structure. And didn't take notes while things were happening (ok, that at least makes sense), but the author decided that the person would a) remind us of the fact all the time and b) use that as an excuse to include almost no dialogue.

(A few weeks ago, I finished Gordon Livingston's Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart, at Mom's urging, which pretty much encapsulated why I dislike self-help books: there was maybe one true, useful thing in the 40-odd pages, and the rest was a blend of "let's state the obvious" and pop-psych masturbation. Gross.)

I also finally got around to reading [livejournal.com profile] theemdash's A Loose Bolt in a Complete Machine, [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's Sing Morning Out of Night, and [livejournal.com profile] paian's Safe as Houses. The first two were amazing, the third was equally so though not really my speed content-wise.

Hopefully I can do my own writing soon...
melayneseahawk: (good morning)
Got run around in circles a bit when I did the application for [local community college], but I am now applied, for the Fall '09 semester. We'll see what happens re: classes, etc, once I actually get in.

Got run around even worse trying to sort out some tax things for the Monologues. I think I have it tentatively sorted (I'm now waiting for a letter thanking us for our donation from the Victim's Advocate on campus, but then we'll be good), but it was an annoying experience. The first person I talked to at the comptroller's office gave me the wrong number to call, so I wound up stuck in the health department's phone tree for a bit, and then when I called the comptroller's office again, I got kicked off the line when I was on hold three times. And when I finally did talk to someone, she was incredibly rude. But at least she transferred me to the right person.

Then I called the FACT Rx people (something that's part of this program I was signed up for as part of my health insurance), and they're really stupid. Basically, the part of it that I'm interested in is theoretically a discount on all prescription medications. However, each individual pharmacy sets the discount for each drug, and there's no standardized list anywhere. So I have to actually go to CVS with the card and see if the discount I might get on the med that isn't covered by my insurance is more than the 25 bucks a month this program costs me. Early guesses say 'no'.

After that Mum took me driving, and after we went to the mall to grab more job applications (people aren't hiring, but they are "accepting applications" :( ). Went to Target to try to get pajama pants, but they didn't have any at all in my size, though they had smaller and larger. And then I was going to get myself bubble tea while Mum was at Starbucks, and I realized that I'd left my wallet on my desk when I took it out to pay the community college's application fee.

It's amazing how frustrating today was, and how much I still managed to get done.

No, I didn't sleep last night, which I'm certain I will regret later, but it made sense at the time. I have to be at work in less than an hour, so it's pretty immaterial anyway. So, I shall up my to-do list and then go change from yesterday's jeans and t-shirt to today's work gear and eat and stuff.

I finally managed to get in touch with the asshole MIA cast member of the play. Apparently, he's started a new job, and it's eating up all of his time, so it's "ok for [us] to give the monologue to someone else".

And he didn't bother to let us know.

Even though I've been calling and e-mailing this guy for two weeks.

Ooh, if I could kill long-distance with my mind, he'd be a small pile of ash right now.

Anyone (preferably male and of college age) in my area want to get up on stage next Friday and read a short-ish monologue about a guy talking to a Cambodian prostitute?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Bueller?

*sigh*

is that I have lots of things to do, and much too little time in which to do them.

(Plus, I have to go to bed early tonight so I can get up at 4a tomorrow, and it's so not going to happen. *headdesk*)

The reason, btw, that I am cleaning things at my parents' house is because I'm broke. Mum offered that they would pay me $30 a week if I came by and did two hours of cleaning-of-some-type every aforementioned week. It's not a bad deal, and I'm really broke right now. (It's strange. When I first moved out, I was almost afraid to go back to my parents' house, for fear that somehow I wouldn't be able to leave again. Does this happen to everyone, or is it just me?)

Ah! Spiders!

Tuesday, 17 March 2009 14:34

There is a distinct disadvantage to living in a basement. It is the eight-legged horrors I occasionally share it with. I'm not phobic about creepy-crawlies or anything, but it is not cool to suddenly turn around to find a spider the size of a nickel sitting between you and...well, getting off your chair. I definitely said "Ack! Spider!" before leaping from chair to bed (bypassing spider) so I could get a tissue and destroy the arachnid menace between me and food, bathroom, etc.

Admittedly, centipedes are a million gazillion times worse. There's just something wrong about the way they move. *shudders*

In unrelated news, let us play Stump the Geek:

I attempted to move My Pictures from my C: drive to F:, an external harddrive. When I did so, the first subfolder and its contents in My Pictures disappeared into the aether. Foolishly, I attempted to move My Pictures back from F: to C:, and the second subfolder (which had become the first subfolder) disappeared as well. Any idea where they went? (I searched C:, F:, and G:, another external, with no success.) Is it possible to get them back?

(I already asked [livejournal.com profile] ibneko, who is my go-to neko for most tech questions, and he didn't know. I am terrified by this turn of events.)

tl;dr, but slowly getting shorter )

I am currently playing simultaneous games of phone tag with two different people, which is always fun. I have also had a really, really long day.

Woke up at 4a, since I was opening at work. Proceeded to stare at the ceiling until 4:30, when I rolled out of bed, dressed, and did other things that would make me presentable to the general public. O picked me up at 10 of and drove us to work; he lives near me, and he's a gentleman when he's not being an ass, so he refused to let me take the bus once he realized we were opening together. (No joy on Thursday, the other day I open this week; L is also lacking in car.) Worked for just under six hours--there's funny stories there, but I'm too tired to relate them--though I spent most of that time using the register/side of the pastry case/wall/broom to keep me upright.

Mum picked me up just as I got out, and we went to Local HMO Offices to have needles poked in our arms (shot for me, blood work for her), and then she dropped me off at therapy. And then I got home, with the plan to write...and have been watching Brotherhood 2.0 since I got home at about 3.

*headdesk*

(This did, however, remind me of two projects--one SUPA SEKRIT and one not so much--I've been meaning to do, so maybe it'll help me get on them.)

Good news, though, is that I am now fully protected from two main strains of HPV, which cause cervical cancer. Maybe. There are like 14+ strains, though only four cause cancer, as I recall, something like that. Whatever. Is done, and my arm and shoulder and side-of-neck hurt. Note to y'all who haven't gotten it done yet: they're right, the third ones burns going in and hurts like a motherfucker afterwards.

Jesus Allah Buddha, it's a good thing I've got two days off now. My head's going to fall off and roll away.

In a new development, the To-Do List is subdivided now, because my brain is a sieve. (Yes, this is the way my brain actually works. I'm a freak, I know.)

tl;dr )

I'm sure I'm forgetting things, too.

ETA: Wow, how many different ways did I blaspheme in this post? This has got to be a personal record.

Uh God.

Yesterday's rehearsal went surprisingly well, considering that only 2/3 of the cast were there, and we had two cast members drop out only a few hours apart. I love the Monologues, I think they are a learning experience (both theatrically and socially), but for the love of Thespis I never thought I'd say I miss working with actors. At least then, if they drop out, they never work again. *evil grin*

(Happily, we'd shifted things to cover one of the drop-outs before the rehearsal had even started. And we've already tapped someone from the last show to hopefully pick up the other part.)

Need to write today, and cook, so I have food to eat after work this weekend. I got my schedule for next week (first week I told my boss it was OK for me to open), and it's kind of horrendous. More hours for me, though, so I shan't complain too much...

And I swear, this cold thing has been shifting in my head. First it was primarily my throat, then my nose (started the day yesterday sneezing up blood, that was fun), and now my eyes itch like someone threw pollen directly at them. I'll have to go to the pharmacy after my shrink appointment today, I suspect, and I'm definitely going to pick up Sudafed and eyedrops while I'm there.

Ugh, utterly useless day, though I think my general malaise has more to do with the Dreaded Depressive Episode that I was anticipating rather than actually being sick. I woke up at 7p feeling like a blob of DO NOT WANT, canceled my appointments for today, and went back to bed, sleeping until about 1p. I've been laying around reading fanfic all day, mostly. Had tea, and some spicy soup (mm, spicy soup, have I mentioned my affection for it?) around 5, and am now debating additional sustenance before I go back to bed at midnight. (Benefit of pills: I sleep when I want me to, most of the time.) Might just have some more seaweed salad and hope that I wake up feeling better tomorrow.

I was also hit with the plot of my [livejournal.com profile] imaginarybeasts last night, and [livejournal.com profile] kashmir_ki_kali helped me iron out the ending, but of course I didn't get anything done today, much less writing. Have to catch up tomorrow, but I know that A's claimed me to help clean her room, and then we have rehearsals for MMRP (big honking disaster, that one, but what can you do?)

And on a completely unrelated note, the Yaz pills taste terrible for some reason (that, my friends is part of the post I was going to write yesterday, entitled "LOTS OF STUFF YOU NEVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT MY VAG").

Singularly unproductive day, but I think I'm allowed them every once in a while. Spent a few hours trawling I Can Has Cheezburger, hence the earlier lolcat spam.

Started (and finished) Bitter Thorns, the lesbo retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" written by the same woman who wrote the pair of sci fi lesbian adventure/romance novels I might have mentioned (Shadows of Aggar and Fires of Aggar). I kind of think I could write better with my eyes closed (well, less typos, and 'twere I her, I'd shoot my editors). Maybe someday I will.

Also, signed up for [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest, because I clearly have a death wish. It's a great fest, at least for those of us who like real-world implications of things. And this year I'm not writing all about children, so that's nice. (See what I did there?)

We're also not rehearsing today, due to a collection of circumstances I don't feel like recreating at the mo. Basically, I'm a little peeved at A, because I'm getting stuck dealing with everything, and she's not picking up the slack when I get fed up.

Oh well, let's try to catch up on the productivity front.
