Friday at the Movies

Boredom on at home means walking down the street to the video store, where we get unlimited rentals for like $20 a month. So, because by this point the movies are free, I rented Constantine, The Brothers Grimm, and the first disc of Firefly. Also, TNT is doing football movies all weekend, so Remember the Titans was on at 8p.

Sat down to watch Constantine first. Keanu Reeves cannot act, but the special effects were awesome and the script surprisingly good, imho. I don't need to cut for spoilers, do I? Oh well, if you haven't seen, skip to the next paragraph. Anyway, I was surprised at how Constantine managed to be a compelling character, despite Reeves' utter inability to act. The supporting characters were all great, which I think helped, especially the way they portrayed Lucifer and Gabriel. The way Lu moved and spoke really had me convinced that he could have been the serpent in the Garden, and Gabe was delightfully insane. I think Tilda Swinton is my new favorite actor. The warning for "demonic imagery" in the rating had me giggling, but I can see why they did it; there was some seriously freak shit going on at times (melting demons = t3h 4w3s0m3). The plot even made sense, and some of the dialogue was pretty amusing, though I had to watch the film on subtitles because at times the sound was really uneven.

I do recommend Constantine, but I wonder how true it was to the comics. Anyone know?

Then I sat down and watched Remember the Titans, only to discover that I'd never seen the last half-hour or so. *facepalm* Bertier gets in a car accident?! *bursts into tears* I like that movie even better now, but I feel a little silly, raving about it for years and not having seen the end. I still love that movie.

In related news, saw two frightening ads while I was watching Law & Order between films. The first was for a movie called United 93, a fictional account of what happened on the fourth 9-11 flight. It's due out 28 April. Too soon, guys, too soon. The second ad was for LotR TT on TBS, and it was only scary because it was like it had been put together by Frodo/Sam shippers. Ick, hobbit!cest.

List of movies, etc I plan on seeing (feel free to let me know if I've forgotten anything):
~ Firefly
~ followed by Serenity, of course
~ Matrix: Reloaded and Matrix: Revolutions, so I know what you all have been bitching about
~ the other Blade movies, because I want a good laugh
~ Brokeback Mountain again, because I loves me some angst
~ other things I'm forgettting

Going to sit down and watch some Firefly now, methinks, and then write.

Agreed heartily with the above sentiments, but...

At least someone sees my reasoning here. Goodness.
