Mom and Dad have just informed the brother and me that they're getting a divorce.

Is it bad that I saw this coming, and had hoped they could hold out until after my brother was out of the house?

I...I really need to get out of here, I can't deal with this right now. I'd even be up for drinking myself into unconsciousness at this point.

edit: And they've just announced they still want us to do a family vacation this year, attendance theoretically optional (though Mom's already working up to a guilt trip, I can smell it). I can't do this.

Honestly, I've wanted them to just deal with it for a while, but I'm really worried about what this is going to do to my brother. He's only 15, and they've decided that it's his decision who he's going to live with. I can theoretically move out (well, not really, because I can't afford it, but legally I can), but he's stuck with this for at least another three years.

If you could see it coming, then it was probably time. Your brother's old enough to navigate a joint custody situation, and I would guess that actually will be a lot healthier for him than dealing with the death throes of your parents' relationship for another three whole years. :(

Yeah, that was my thought. It's just that he's a young 15, so I'm a bit worried. But I'm positive Mom and Dad will do their best, and I've already offered up the option of having him stay in the dorm with me overnight if things really get icky.

i don't even like family vacations as it is and my family's somewhat cohesive...

and while i don't know your brother, if he's anything like i was at 15 he's probably more than mature enough to handle something like this and while it won't be the easiest thing in the world, at least he'll have a good big sister to rely on. =)

i saw your link on facebook...i'm so sorry to hear about it....i've been through it before if you ever need to talk or vent, just let me know...also, regarding your brother...i was only 12, and navigating the joint custody wasn't as bad as you would think, and evan's a really smart kid, he'll be able to figure out what's best for him...thoughts with you, and be in touch if you need
