Not Dead Yet! (and Fic - "Galatea")

Wow, it's been ages since I posted something of substance.

Break is, sadly, over, but fun while it lasted. Spent a good part of it setting up the new laptop (hereby called Fifth*) after moving everything onto it from the old one (hereby called Harlan*). Vista is evil, but I can deal, and so far it's doing what I want. Harlan presumably got mailed back to the mothership today, and they should be giving us money back. And then I'm paying for the rest...so my mother will stop trying to take the poor thing away. :(

Rest of break was spent doing tea with Mum, visiting the Folger with Da, and pestering the brat. Tea = awesome, Folger = slightly disappointing, brat = the usual. Wish break had been longer, I guess, but more time at home would have been deadly.

Interesting thing on Sunday, though, before I went back to school. Evil shul has commissioned three new Torah scrolls, since the ones they have are apparently no longer kosher because they're faded and falling apart. The first two scrolls were paid for by individual families, but the third is being paid for by the whole congregation, $18** a letter. And, because mitzvah*** 613 (the last one, natch) is to create a Torah, the scribe is coming to the shul a couple of days so that everyone can trace the letters they bought into the scroll, thus letting us complete said miztvah. Family bought two letters, and we went to the shul on Sunday to write them in. It was kind of cool, actually. Da took lots of pictures, naturally (for his class :P).

And now, some amusing things!

Fun [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes about dorm life and rules geeks should follow.

Oh, and there was fic, too (and it's original fic!):

written for the Slashers Dionysia 2007, under the category of satyr play.

This fic includes an f/f relationship and my usual brand of fast-and-loose mythology (of the Greek kind only this time). You don't like, don't read. You've been warned.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] triannamaxwell and [livejournal.com profile] velvetcherri for the beta.

“Stop me if you’ve heard this one before,” Eros bitched, right wing twitching idly.

(Galatea | PG-13 | 1300 words | complete)

Feedback is better than chocolate.

* 2 geek points if you get one of those references, 4 if you get both, 10 if you can guess the name of my iPod based on the two names you've been given
** 18 is a significant number in Judaism, as well as multiples of it; each Hebrew letter has a numerical value assigned, and the letters that spell 18 spell read "life" when read as a word
*** a good deed; there are 613 listed in the Torah (Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy)

Wow, I should come with subtitles.

Ok, we can continue later. And when we do, you can answer my question in a new comment thread.

That last thread was getting a bit unruly. ;)

Ancient devices have been in the shape of tables in many eps. Name three devices.

The time-looping device from "Window of Opportunity," the weapon at Dakara from "Reckoning," and Merlin's black-knight hologram thingy from "Camelot."

What is the name of the event that causes everyone on Vyus (including Linea) to lose their memories?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet.

They call it the Vorlix, I believe.

During s6, Jack is with the Tok'ra for the span of one episode before he escapes in "Abyss". What ep is it?
theemdash: (SG-1 Jack Spaz)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! I wasn't sure if that question would be too obscure. ;)

I'm not great on the Season 6 timeline, but I'm pretty sure he's with the Tok'ra during "Nightwalkers."

btw- do you mind if I steal your questions for DragonCon trivia? I can give you credit as a contributor (we're writing Stargate Trivial Pursuit).

Your question: In "Foothold," the aliens killed on the plane were impersonating which two people?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, it's Nightwalkers.

Sure, not a problem. If you e-mail me, I'll give you my real name to use, if that's what you guys are using rather than online handles.

Daniel and...Paul Davis? Maybe?

An easy one, because I can't think of anything: what is Jack's favorite color, and what episode is it canon from?
theemdash: (Daniel Bandana)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect that we'll use whatever names people want us to use. I won't really decide until I have to type up the stuff. ;)

Paul is right, but the one that's killed on the plane is Jack. Daniel's lives (for awhile anyway).

The color is peridot. And that was from "Heroes."

Um . . . What's the first episode with a zat?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, just poke me when you decide.

Really? But Sam takes his gadget so she looks like Daniel. Weird.

Oh. Uh. Is it "Within the Serpent's Grasp"?

Marty the alien appears in three episodes. Name them.

theemdash: (Daniel Pr0n)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, he's still alive. (I'm rewatching SG-1 which is why all of the Seasons 1-3 stuff is so fresh in my head. Up tonight it "Urgo.")

Marty first shows up in "Point of No Return" and then next in "Wormhole X-Treme!" and then finally in "200."

Speaking of "200," how do Sam and Daniel "punk" Mitchell?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Jack's my daddy?" 'Nuff said.

Speaking of Urgo, what food does Jack say he doesn't like when they're all sitting around the table piled high with desserts?
theemdash: (Daniel Evil)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG. Does he say he doesn't like pie?

Which SG team is Daniel off-world with when the SGC connects to a blackhole?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he says he doesn't like yogurt.

SG...9? 11? Something like that?

Speaking of that ep, what's the name of the Colonel from Jack's past who reappears and then dies to save him?
theemdash: (SG-1 Jack/Daniel Threads)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Phew. If it had been pie, I would have had to run around screaming.

Daniel was off world with SG-6. But he does head off with SG-11 a time or two. (I like to think that he's trying to make Jack jealous.)

Cromwell.

And, while we're on him, why was Jack so pissed at him?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Cromwell left Jack behind in Iraq when Jack's plane went down.

Name another ep where Jack's experiences in Iraq are mentioned or hinted at.
theemdash: (SG-1 Jack)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
In "Solitudes" Jack talks about being behind enemy lines for months, then in "Prisoners" he hints at beind in jail (which fanon interperts as Iraqui prison), and oh, another fanon one is "Need" because Jack says something to Daniel about "knowing what [addition] is like" and I've heard it interperted as an addiction to painkillers after Iraq.

There's another one, though, isn't there?

Of course you know there are two Earth Stargates, which one is currently being used?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, not that I can think of, but I could be wrong.

Earth has three gates, I thought: the Giza one, the Russian one, and Antarctica. As I remember, they're still using the one on loan from the Russians.
theemdash: (SG-1 Crack)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, there are only two. The SGC had both the Giza Gate and the Antartic Gate until "Small Victories" when SG-1 beamed the Giza Gate aboard Thor's ship to escape the Replicators. That 'gate went into the ocean. They thought that 'gate was destroyed, but the Russians picked it up and the SGC kept using the Antartic Gate. The SGC wound up blowing up the Antartic Gate and then we got the Giza Gate on loan from the Russians. :D

I admit that I had to look up the tracking.

No new question? ;)

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
*facepalm* That was dizzying.

Um...What gives Cassie psychic powers in "Rite of Passage"?
theemdash: (SG-1 Sam/Cam)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Our fandom is not easy.

Genetic manipulation by Nirrti.

Name two of the four cadets SG-1 trained in "Proving Ground." (Or all four, if you can.)

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hailey and Satterfield, I'm forgetting the boys.

Speaking of Hailey, when is her first appearance?
theemdash: (SG-1 Daniel/Sam)

[personal profile] theemdash 2007-03-28 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Elliot and Groggin (who I refer to as "cannon fodder" since he kept getting shot by everything)

Hailey first showed up in "Prodigy" when Sam went to lecture at the AF Academy.

My brain is sucking: How many minutes will a Stargate stay engaged under normal circumstances?

[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
38!

Give me two examples of when it stayed engaged beyond that point (incident or ep).
