Not Dead Yet! (and Fic - "Galatea")

Wow, it's been ages since I posted something of substance.
Break is, sadly, over, but fun while it lasted. Spent a good part of it setting up the new laptop (hereby called Fifth*) after moving everything onto it from the old one (hereby called Harlan*). Vista is evil, but I can deal, and so far it's doing what I want. Harlan presumably got mailed back to the mothership today, and they should be giving us money back. And then I'm paying for the rest...so my mother will stop trying to take the poor thing away. :(
Rest of break was spent doing tea with Mum, visiting the Folger with Da, and pestering the brat. Tea = awesome, Folger = slightly disappointing, brat = the usual. Wish break had been longer, I guess, but more time at home would have been deadly.
Interesting thing on Sunday, though, before I went back to school. Evil shul has commissioned three new Torah scrolls, since the ones they have are apparently no longer kosher because they're faded and falling apart. The first two scrolls were paid for by individual families, but the third is being paid for by the whole congregation, $18** a letter. And, because mitzvah*** 613 (the last one, natch) is to create a Torah, the scribe is coming to the shul a couple of days so that everyone can trace the letters they bought into the scroll, thus letting us complete said miztvah. Family bought two letters, and we went to the shul on Sunday to write them in. It was kind of cool, actually. Da took lots of pictures, naturally (for his class :P).
And now, some amusing things!

Fun
metaquotes about dorm life and rules geeks should follow.
Oh, and there was fic, too (and it's original fic!):
written for the Slashers Dionysia 2007, under the category of satyr play.
This fic includes an f/f relationship and my usual brand of fast-and-loose mythology (of the Greek kind only this time). You don't like, don't read. You've been warned.
Thanks to
triannamaxwell and
velvetcherri for the beta.
“Stop me if you’ve heard this one before,” Eros bitched, right wing twitching idly.
(Galatea | PG-13 | 1300 words | complete)
Feedback is better than chocolate.
* 2 geek points if you get one of those references, 4 if you get both, 10 if you can guess the name of my iPod based on the two names you've been given
** 18 is a significant number in Judaism, as well as multiples of it; each Hebrew letter has a numerical value assigned, and the letters that spell 18 spell read "life" when read as a word
*** a good deed; there are 613 listed in the Torah (Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy)
Wow, I should come with subtitles.

27/3/07 02:56 (UTC)Rules: Not allowed to look it up.
First one to not know the answer or get one wrong loses.
From show canon only, kthx.
No Atlantis, unless you want them, too.
Mm, to begin, and easy one: What are the Four Races (plus one, if you wish)?
no subject
27/3/07 10:49 (UTC)Though I would amend that we can continue to go even if there's a loser because honestly, this is going to be fun. ;)
The Four Races are the Nox, the Asgard, the Ancients, and the Furlings (which I recently saw someone spell as 'Firlings'). And the Fifth Race is the Tau'ri.
Hmm . . . an easy one back: Which member of SG-1 is the first to speak Ancient?
no subject
27/3/07 13:06 (UTC)It's Jack, of course!
Ok, not so easy anymore: What's the name of Jonas' planet? *evil laugh*
no subject
27/3/07 13:58 (UTC)(Do I get half credit for that or full?)
And for you, to go with the whole planet-naming thing, What is the name of the planet on which the Rand Protectorate is located?
no subject
27/3/07 14:06 (UTC)But, to continue, list five episodes that have numbers in their names.

27/3/07 14:18 (UTC)Okay, first I have to say that your question made my jaw drop because it's one that I was considering for D*C trivia. *snickers* Great minds. ;)
So, five episodes with numbers in their names: 48 Hours, 2001, 2010, 200 and The First Ones, also The Fifth Race, The First Commandment, and Zero Hour. (Are there any others with actual digits?)
Here's one they didn't know last year: What does the Unas word "ka" translate to?

28/3/07 12:37 (UTC)That last thread was getting a bit unruly. ;)
Ancient devices have been in the shape of tables in many eps. Name three devices.
The time-looping device from "Window of Opportunity," the weapon at Dakara from "Reckoning," and Merlin's black-knight hologram thingy from "Camelot."
What is the name of the event that causes everyone on Vyus (including Linea) to lose their memories?
no subject
28/3/07 12:44 (UTC)They call it the Vorlix, I believe.
During s6, Jack is with the Tok'ra for the span of one episode before he escapes in "Abyss". What ep is it?
no subject
28/3/07 12:59 (UTC)I'm not great on the Season 6 timeline, but I'm pretty sure he's with the Tok'ra during "Nightwalkers."
btw- do you mind if I steal your questions for DragonCon trivia? I can give you credit as a contributor (we're writing Stargate Trivial Pursuit).
Your question: In "Foothold," the aliens killed on the plane were impersonating which two people?
no subject
28/3/07 15:20 (UTC)Sure, not a problem. If you e-mail me, I'll give you my real name to use, if that's what you guys are using rather than online handles.
Daniel and...Paul Davis? Maybe?
An easy one, because I can't think of anything: what is Jack's favorite color, and what episode is it canon from?
no subject
28/3/07 15:37 (UTC)Paul is right, but the one that's killed on the plane is Jack. Daniel's lives (for awhile anyway).
The color is peridot. And that was from "Heroes."
Um . . . What's the first episode with a zat?
no subject
28/3/07 15:46 (UTC)Really? But Sam takes his gadget so she looks like Daniel. Weird.
Oh. Uh. Is it "Within the Serpent's Grasp"?
Marty the alien appears in three episodes. Name them.
no subject
28/3/07 15:51 (UTC)Marty first shows up in "Point of No Return" and then next in "Wormhole X-Treme!" and then finally in "200."
Speaking of "200," how do Sam and Daniel "punk" Mitchell?
no subject
28/3/07 15:56 (UTC)Speaking of Urgo, what food does Jack say he doesn't like when they're all sitting around the table piled high with desserts?
no subject
28/3/07 16:19 (UTC)Which SG team is Daniel off-world with when the SGC connects to a blackhole?
no subject
28/3/07 16:35 (UTC)SG...9? 11? Something like that?
Speaking of that ep, what's the name of the Colonel from Jack's past who reappears and then dies to save him?
no subject
28/3/07 16:44 (UTC)Daniel was off world with SG-6. But he does head off with SG-11 a time or two. (I like to think that he's trying to make Jack jealous.)
Cromwell.
And, while we're on him, why was Jack so pissed at him?
no subject
28/3/07 16:49 (UTC)Name another ep where Jack's experiences in Iraq are mentioned or hinted at.
