melayneseahawk: (utter stupidity)

Wow, it's been ages since I posted something of substance.

Break is, sadly, over, but fun while it lasted. Spent a good part of it setting up the new laptop (hereby called Fifth*) after moving everything onto it from the old one (hereby called Harlan*). Vista is evil, but I can deal, and so far it's doing what I want. Harlan presumably got mailed back to the mothership today, and they should be giving us money back. And then I'm paying for the rest...so my mother will stop trying to take the poor thing away. :(

Rest of break was spent doing tea with Mum, visiting the Folger with Da, and pestering the brat. Tea = awesome, Folger = slightly disappointing, brat = the usual. Wish break had been longer, I guess, but more time at home would have been deadly.

Interesting thing on Sunday, though, before I went back to school. Evil shul has commissioned three new Torah scrolls, since the ones they have are apparently no longer kosher because they're faded and falling apart. The first two scrolls were paid for by individual families, but the third is being paid for by the whole congregation, $18** a letter. And, because mitzvah*** 613 (the last one, natch) is to create a Torah, the scribe is coming to the shul a couple of days so that everyone can trace the letters they bought into the scroll, thus letting us complete said miztvah. Family bought two letters, and we went to the shul on Sunday to write them in. It was kind of cool, actually. Da took lots of pictures, naturally (for his class :P).

And now, some amusing things!

Fun [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes about dorm life and rules geeks should follow.

Oh, and there was fic, too (and it's original fic!):

written for the Slashers Dionysia 2007, under the category of satyr play.

This fic includes an f/f relationship and my usual brand of fast-and-loose mythology (of the Greek kind only this time). You don't like, don't read. You've been warned.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] triannamaxwell and [livejournal.com profile] velvetcherri for the beta.

“Stop me if you’ve heard this one before,” Eros bitched, right wing twitching idly.

Feedback is better than chocolate.

* 2 geek points if you get one of those references, 4 if you get both, 10 if you can guess the name of my iPod based on the two names you've been given
** 18 is a significant number in Judaism, as well as multiples of it; each Hebrew letter has a numerical value assigned, and the letters that spell 18 spell read "life" when read as a word
*** a good deed; there are 613 listed in the Torah (Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy)

Wow, I should come with subtitles.

I looked it up after I answered also. I thought he said a name for Vala. Huh.

Daniel is Galahad (which cracks me up)

Me too.

Okay, the three planets are Vagonbrei, Castiana (Taoth Vaclarush), and Sahal (Valos Cor).

Um . . . I don't think it's right, but is it spinach?

I'm having issues coming up with a question at the moment so I'm going with this: How many Ph.Ds does Daniel have and have are they in?

Arrugula!

And yours is a trick question! I think canon is two, but at some point it suddenly became three, and fanon's gone running with that number. And it's Archeology, Philology, and Anthropology, right?

'Chevron guy' had gone through a series of names. Name all three.

Arrugula! Right! Argh.

Heh. I don't remember them mentioning it before "The Scourge." In fact, I don't think they ever stated his specialties before then. (Though I do wonder where Egyptology went.)

Gah! I love Gary and I should know this, but I can't remember the first name he was given! It was something that only stuck for one episode. After that his first name was established as Walter ("2010") and then his last name was Davis before they finally settled on Harriman.

You're a fellow Browncoat, name the character Adam Baldwin played in "Heroes" (rank and name).

27/3/07 18:04 (UTC)
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
Heh, no, that was the three I was looking for. I didn't think there was a third last name.

Ack! It was in Heroes, he's the CO of the team so he must be at least a major, but I don't remember. Phoo.

Who teaches Teal'c to drive? What episode is it?

(Can I do Atlantis questions, too?)

27/3/07 18:12 (UTC)
theemdash: (SG-1 Dixon)
[personal profile] theemdash
I think there was an original first name. I know I've talked to Gary or heard him talk about it before.

*points to icon* Col. Dave Dixon. SG-13 is my very favorite SG team. (I could quiz you on the names of the other members, but I won't be that mean.)

Daniel teaches Teal'c to drive in "1969." I can't remember which episode we were retconned that information, though.

What is the name of the planet Cassandra is from?

(I'm not so great with SGA [and I haven't seen the second half of this season] but we can try it.)

27/3/07 18:32 (UTC)
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
Thank you for that bit of grace.

Dun remember when it's retconned, either, but it might be "Affinity".

...it had a name? *facepalm*

How does "Citizen Joe" get Jack's memories?

(I was going to ask what other two Firefly actors appear in Stargate, but one of the is still spoilers for you, I suppose.)

theemdash: (Daniel Huh)
[personal profile] theemdash
I was also thinking "Affinity."

Heh. Yes. It's Hanka, aka P8X-987 (I don't know why I remember that particular number).

Joe also has the Ancient gene and got his hands on one of those Ancient communication devices that keyed him and Jack to each other.

Well, Morena is Adria and Jewel was a wraith in Season 2 (dunno if she's coming back in a different role or anything, though).

Um . . . Which episode did Michael Shanks direct?

27/3/07 18:47 (UTC)
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
Yup!

She was a Wraith? No way! (She does come back in s3 as someone, but I shan't say more.)

Double Jeopardy, and I don't know why I knew that. I don't usually pay attention to that stuff.

But yes. We all know Michael voices Thor. Who voices Heimdall?

27/3/07 18:56 (UTC)
theemdash: (Daniel Intention)
[personal profile] theemdash
Yeah, she was the child-wraith from whatever episode that was (you can tell I pay so much attention to Atlantis).

I do, however, pay attention to Michael Shanks. ;)

I believe Heimdall is voiced by Teryl Rothery.

So, while we're on the subject of Asgard voices, who voiced Loki?

27/3/07 19:01 (UTC)
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
Really? Wow. Need to rewatch that one now.

Very true. That's why Thor/Heimdall is not a slash ship in my screwed-up little head. :D

Oh, um...one of the DeLuises?

What politician is snaked and almost causes in international incident?

27/3/07 19:08 (UTC)
theemdash: (SG-1 Jack/Daniel Threads)
[personal profile] theemdash
Ha. Yes. Peter does the voice. *snickers* "One of the DeLuises."

What politican isn't snaked and almost causes an international incident? :P I think you're specifically thinking of the Russian general in "Full Alert" who I think is General Kessleof (or something like that).

Speaking of Russians, who is the Russian officer Anubis first inhabits in "Lockdown"?

27/3/07 19:22 (UTC)
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
There are a few of them, you must admit.

Actually, I meant Kinsey in the same ep, but that works, too.

Korolev? Maybe? Probably not.

What causes Daniel to go crazy in "Legacy"?

27/3/07 19:34 (UTC)
theemdash: (Daniel Evil)
[personal profile] theemdash
But Kinsey wasn't really the one to nearly cause an international incident. (Though I almost answered him as well to cover all the bases.)

The Korolev is the spaceship. *snickers* The Russian officer is Colonel Vaselov; I liked him. (And if you're wondering, I looked it up and the spelling for the general is Kiselev.)

Daniel went crazy due to Machello's little goa'uld killing boogers. (Do those things have a name?)

Name the three episodes in which Sha're appears.

27/3/07 19:51 (UTC)
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
Kinsey's the one sent to assassinate people, though. It really could be either.

Heh, yeah, some Russian name.

Most people call them Machello bugs, but they are rather booger-like, aren't they?

Children of the Gods (I'm counting that as one, not two); that one when Daniel delivers her baby while Jack and Sam are in DC...Secrets? (wasn't that the most sadistic ep ever?); Forever in a Day

What ep does Kowalski appear in, even after his death?

27/3/07 20:07 (UTC)
theemdash: (Daniel Whomped)
[personal profile] theemdash
Wait, Kinsey was sent to assassinate people?! *reads an episode summary* Okay. *blinks* I can only assume that the hotness of Daniel in a suit made me forget the actual plot. XD

Yes, "Secrets" is the most sadistic episode ever. Although it's the only one in which I don't believe that Daniel loves Sha're and I really wish that I did.

Kowalski is in "The Gamekeeper," "Point of View," and "Moebius."

On the subject of dead characters, who returned from the dead in "Ripple Effect"?

(Sadly this will be my last question for awhile as I have to run errands.)

27/3/07 20:11 (UTC)
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
Heh, everyone does! More specifically, Janet and Martouf.

Ok, we can continue later. And when we do, you can answer my question in a new comment thread.

Ancient devices have been in the shape of tables in many eps. Name three devices.
