highrise living for a joke like me

These are step-by-step photos of a cross-stitch I recently had framed. It was actually a gift for Mom's birthday last year, but I was waiting for a good deal custom framing at Michaels. It's for her office, which is decorated in burgundy, gray, and blues, with Asian art. I'm also making her a second pattern, once I finish the project I'm currently working on.

Plan for tomorrow is to try to get to the DMV and renew my learner's permit. Then a job interview (OMG help), and then shopping for underwear and possibly some nicer shirts. I've got maybe four shirts that are nice and can be worn in polite company, and even if I don't get this job, I'm going to need more than that. We'll see what happens.

Tuesday, I'm going to be meeting up with despiojarse12, and possibly allandaros and kashmir_ki_kali, for tea. I haven't seen despiojarse12 since last summer, when he and another friend met me near our old high school while I was taking driver's ed. I miss seeing that crew every day, I really do.

Since I finished my Trek: OS rewatch, I've now started a TNG rewatch. As much as OS amused me, TNG is still my first love. I was literally raised on it: it started the year I was born, and I grew up watching a blend of TNG and Sesame Street. It definitely explains why I'm warped.

Also, I'm almost done already with the cross stitch I'm making for Mum's birthday next month. Once it's done, I'm going to have pictures of the process, and I think I'll even be able to convince one of the boys to take pictures while I wash and frame it. It's very pretty. :D

And now, to bed.

So apparently I'm just not a fan of absurdism. Just finished reading Beckett's Endgame and I want to rip out my eyes. I have no idea what Casey's going to quiz us on.

ANTH240 exam will not be cumulative, at least, so that's nice to know. Just have 113 this afternoon, and then I'm done with classes for the semester. The (theatre) department banquet is tonight, so after class I get to Nair my legs and let C straighten my hair and do my make-up. As much as getting dressed up and being presentable is fun, I'm not really looking forward to it. I just hope I can grab a table with people I know. It would suck to be stuck there with no one I know.

Version 3.5 of the study plan is to work on the bibliography tonight after the banquet, and then spend Friday researching and finishing that stupid paper. Saturday will be faking ANTH notes. Sunday will be reading the Aeneid, studying the ANTH notes, and dinner for Mother's Day. Monday evening I'll study for the CLAS exam, but then the rest of the week will be devoted to the actual exams and writing the second 113 paper. I can do it!

Also finished the Buddha and bonsai cross stitch, but I'm not counting it as done until it's framed and hanging on Mum's wall at work. I'd already decided to give it to her, but it was merely happy coincidence that I finished it so close to Mother's Day. I'm going to frame it after exams, and then I'll start the wizard and dragon one. Oh, and triannamaxwell, you'd said something about a sewing machine. If I give you the supplies and talk you through how to do it, could you help me turn a few of my finished patterns into pillows?

A meme and then off to class. I'll probably catch up on some of those things I've been meaning to post tonight between class and the banquet.

Room? Check. Roommate? Check. Meal plan? Check. Packed? Not so much. Oh dear. That's my Saturday, right there.

In unrelated news, I finally finished the "Seeds of Summer" cross-stitch I've been working on for who knows how long. Still need to frame it, but it's complete. I'm starting a new one, very Zen, with a Buddha, bonsai tree, and bamboo with about a dozen Chinese characters for various meaningful words. I've already counted out the threat and put it in my keeper (22 colors, of which seven are greens and five are browns, kill me now), but I haven't started the actual pattern. I suspect there will be pictures if I have time.

In other unrelated news, I finally went through and organised my Harry Potter fanfic and linked it all in a list in writers_island. I still have to archive the scarvesnhats in my journal, but it's all neatened up anyways. Just in time for Remix! Ugh.

In other writing news, velvetcherri and I started the Firefly fanfic we're writing. It's surprisingly straight, for me, but I guess that's because it's more gen than any specific relationship. Seems like I'm good at writing Firefly plots, but crap at the dialog, but we're dividing it up pretty evenly so we'll see how it goes.

And now, to bed; I have a long day tomorrow (today?).

Met the roommate. She's a cheerleader, but I will not hold it against her. We set up the room, so there's this big space in the middle, which makes it a lot let cramped. We're on the top floor, with a nice view, and between the open window, the two fans, and the high ceiling, it isn't a total furnace. Stopped off afterwards to pick up a carpet and boxes to keep stuff under the bed (one for food, one for clothes, and two crates for books). Seven days until I move in, and I can't wait.

The cross-stitch is nearing completion. I just have all the nasty little lines to do, and I've already started them. It looks pretty good, even if it's got a bunch of mistakes.

Also wrote multiple personality disorder scene the first, which went better than I expected. Now I just need to poke myself into writing more Atlantis, and life will be good.

Tomorrow is devoted to the cardiologist, going to the hair stylist, and making lists. Lots of lists. Oy vey.

You know the day's going to be a good one when you start the day talking a Marines recruiter in circles. The poor woman didn't know what hit her when I started going on about my personal politics. *does a dance* And this was half-asleep, too, because her call had woken me up.

In other news, I have managed to get the rest of my family hooked on Stargate, so there is minimal complaint when, at 6p each day, I go "TV, mine!" and turn on Stargate reruns. The new season starts on Friday. Whee!

The middle panel (of three) of the sampler is done, except for some detail work I'm saving for last. The Liberty Bell is my favorite part so far, but there are grapes in the top section. Now I'm working on some building (the Rotunda at the UVA Library, now that I look it up), and it's a bitch because it's a white dome on cream-colored fabric, so it's damnably hard to see.

The existing bits of "Pedestal" are about half typed up. I should be able to finish that story in the next few days, I hope.

So, I cooked dinner tonight. Cauliflower sauteed in oyster sauce, rice, and cucumbers in rice wine vinegar. Yumminess. Not too complex, though. The rice cooker took care of the rice, obviously, and the cucumbers are a "throw it in a bowl and stir" cold dish. The most labor-intesive thing was breaking up the cauliflower: a 2-pound head of cauliflower, and I had to break it into 1-inch florets. But it was really good when I finished making it.

Writing fight scenes in RP are pretty fun, especially when you're aiming to put the characters in an awkward situation. *grins evilly*

And the Liberty Bell is taking a helluva long time to stitch.

Saw the original Star Wars trilogy at the AFI Silver yesterday. Lots of fun. It was the same group of people for the three films, and the cheering got louder as the night went on. I love goofball fans; how else would you get a theatre full of lightsabers and people in costume (including a chick with Leia buns held up by Hairigamis). They made me look normal.

Also, I finished transferring the last entries from the Xanga. It's pretty funny looking back at the old entries and seeing the crises play out after the fact. Better yet, there are times when I've written things that make no sense afterwards. I have a really amusing habit of writing cryptic statements in my journals, because I don't want everyone to know what they mean, I suppose. But I don't remember either, so it's pretty goofy. But it's fun to look back on some of the rant-ish things I've written.

I think I'll be washing a bunch of finished cross-stitch pieces tomorrow. I've got a pile of things I really want to finish before I go away, so I'm going to be visiting G Street Fabrics to buy pillows and stuff. Mm, I wish I could sew.

Well, the show was spectacular. I finally got to see it closing night, and it was amazing. The house was a recond-breaking 237. Yayfor all those that came out to see our lovely show!

Cast party was also great. Not because of awards (they were boring) or dancing (there wasn't any) but rather because of the conversation. Spent most of the night talking to Carmel, who is absolutely lovely. I miss her so much. But I am amused to discover that I've been setting off her gay-dar for a while. How amusing and ironic.

Set strike on Monday. Very depressing. And then a short break before Sound of Music auditions. Good luck to all, but *prays for seniority to work in her favor for once*.

Still shit-loads of homework to do, but the cross-stitch is washed, the fyzyks lab is done, and the 'rents are letting me observe Senior Appreciation Day.

Lack of sleep seems to be a theme:

Stephen: I've been way too exhausted to update meaningfully. I'm not sure when it happened... It kinda crept up on me, but now I think I'd need to sleep for a week to get back on schedule.

Me: I finally caught up on my sleep by sleeping from 1a to 8 this morning; would have slept later, but the morning fight about taking my brother to synagogue for a friend's bat mitzvah woke me up. Oh well.

Show's doing marvelously. Mr. Goetz made my day yesterday by telling me that I didn't have to do the math IA because I'd already done it. Yay.

Siberholzen and Seigel had me deliver a handful of rose petals to Sam at last night's show. Smevans also seems to think I'm involved with my "Beth" [IB theatre people know what that means]. So very funny but so not true. I've got my eye on somebody else, who I'm pretty sure has no interest at all. Ah, such is life. And Richard knows, too, so that means seven. Yipee.
