BDC entry delayed until after my ARTH paper is done, but I have a question for you folks:

For those of you who have had your wisdom teeth out, how long did you need to recover? I'm getting mine out in just over a week, and I need to arrange the taking off from work.

I had three wisdom teeth. I was non-functional (in the sense that I don't remember anything) for about 30 hours, and then I was fully functional, albeit crabby. The pain will leave after 4 days or so; however, there's no telling when you'll be able to open your mouth fully again.

You'll definitely want the first two-three days off. During this time, you basically won't be able to eat or speak clearly. Try to get a whole week. If you're feeling lucky, aim for two weeks. You won't fully recover for three or four weeks though. :D HAVE FUN.

It depends on the number and location of teeth pulled. I took 2 to 3 days to be able to function, but I had only one and it was not in a difficult location. The incisions may not heal completely for a few weeks. Also, upper jaw wisdom teeth are easier to extract (shorter recovery) than lower jaw teeth (not sure why).

You'll be pretty much back to normal in a week. But the first three or four days are full of chipmunky, soup-eating, swollen, painkillery goodness. Fifth and sixth days it gets better and by the seventh you feel much better and look much less like you're trying to smuggle a football in your mouth.

It's a good time to sit down with some movies you've been meaning to watch.

(Best part of getting my wisdom teeth out was the super ibuprofin they had me take for a week. My hands didn't bother me for months afterward. It was awesome.)

It depends on how many teeth you are getting removes, and whether or not they are impacted. I had all four removed, but none of them were impacted - I got two pulled on a Tuesday, and the other two that Thursday, and wasn't really out of commission for any length of time (didn't even puff out like a chipmunk). I mean, it was sore for a while, but nothing other than that.
Of course, this was last summer in between ending work and starting school, so I didn't schedule anything in advance (actually, I went in to the dentist's office to get them checked out, and came out with two fewer teeth). Just in case, I'd take off 3-4 days.
