muck_a_luck is awesome, and did a lightning-quick beta and reassured me that the story didn't suck at the same time. I'm going to let it percolate for a bit before doing one last read and then I'm going to send it in.

And hopefully the illustrator will get back to me. There's one image from the fic I'd really like to see drawn.

Also, Write or Die is a fantastically evil writing tool. I'm totally going to use it to write my next paper.
