I return, victorious, after a week in posting exile for one reason or another. The last three days it was due to a fight with OIT, and before that a total lack of time. So, for the sake of inquiring minds, I shall condense the last week's doings into a handy topic-by-topic format:

Classes: The good ones are good, and the bad ones are a chore, but that's life. ANTH240 is an interesting class, but the prof's teaching style is rehashing the textbook. ARTH290 is fascinating, but hard to take notes on. THET112 is theatre, TOK-style, I swear it, and Thespis is probably turning in his grave. THET114 is a great class in theory, but in practice I'm not learning much; I'm learning a lot more in shop (see below). UNIV is not even worth mentioning.

Shops: I work in two shops: the scene shop for 114 hours, and the costume shop as a hand-sewing volunteer. Costumes is tedious, boring work, and much less fun that I would have expected, but I bet a lot of that has to do with the fact that I get all the nasty jobs that are labor-intensive and not at all pretty. Scene shop is much better. I'm learning how to do all kinds of interesting things (make stud walls similar to those in houses, use a nail gun, cut steel) and the work is much more rewarding than that in the costume shop. Even better, I can ask questions about the stuff from class that I have no clue about. Though I did manage to skin a knuckle the first week and slice my fingers open on a steel beam the second week. I truly am a clod.

Job: I've worked just under 10 hours in the last two weeks, and next week I'm working something like 15 alone. Basically, being "even staff" means that we do set up, tech, and strike for recitals, guests, and small performances at CSPAC, as well as set up and clean up for receptions. I've already learned a lot about two of the spaces (the concert halls) and learned basic light board programming and running. It's an ideal position: pays $7 an hour, starting salary, and it lets me play with the spaces I'll be living in for the next four years, at least, and it's all knowledge I can apply to other theatres later. There's a lot of sitting around time, but I can read.

Too tired to write out the rest now. Tomorrow I'll put up relationship-y news and the OIT battle tomorrow before I go to the All-Nighter.

Oh, and a prize to anyone who can guess the two sci fi references in my icon.

The icon is a piccy of stargatey stuff, and the quote, as we all know, is from STV: The Crappy One.

Star Trek V. That's what I said, dammit! Honestly, you think I'd mix up the two?

Not at all, which was why I was confused.
