I don't want to even talk about my day right now.

Let me just say that the fucking manager locked his keys in the store. You can kind of fill in from there, but I will retell the horrid tale if anyone's really interested. There are babies! and a lot of free drinks.

(I've fallen in love with the use of the ! in the middle of a sentence to indicated particular emphasis. I would never use it in "real" writing (fiction, essays, anything), but it kind of mimics the way I speak/think, so I like it. :P

I have snuck home in the middle of my busy day so I can check my e-mail at take my work clothes/apron/hat out of my purse. It was going to explode. I still have to down to [nearest semi-downtown area] and back, but at least my purse will be smaller.

Also, the guy I talked to at the place where I applied wasn't there today, so I couldn't pester him. Plus, Da says that Job Hunting Etiquette says that I shouldn't do anything now but wait to hear from them and apply for other jobs. The only other thing I can do--because the guy said they technically weren't hiring until April--is go in April 1st and say "well?". I do not like this. At all. Thoughts?

Also can anyone think of any jobs I could pursue in or around [the area in which I live]? (If you don't know where I live, you probably won't be able to help me, anyway.) I have retail and general clerical experience and will do pretty much anything that doesn't involve taking my clothes off (though there are days...). Actually, I lie, I can't work food service because then Charbucks could legally sue me. And that would not be fun.

So, should I continue casually stalking the store? Should I look elsewhere. If yes, where? I have this suspicion that the reason no one has "We're Hiring" signs is because no one is hiring.

Well, until you get something exactly like you want, you should try a temp agencies. You can always tell them you are interested in short jobs. Though you might be a week on and a week off. Eh. Maybe that's not ideal.

I wish we were going to hire on a clerk this summer, but I don't think we have the cash. :( What are you looking for in the way of hourly?

Basically, I set up my schedule (and Current Job) so I can work up to 8-hour days at Future Part-Time Job Monday through Wednesday and then work the rest of the week at Ye Olde Coffee Shoppe. I'd be fine working 24 hours a week at the one and 20-30 at the other, because that would allow for most possible moneys and still let me keep my once-and-future-health-insurance. Would anyone even hire someone with that kind of availability?

(Somehow, I know large number of paralegals. I should have thought to ask around. I was just so focused on the retail side, since it's what I know best.)

When I asked hourly, I meant a wage, though knowing you are looking for 24 hours is interesting to know. I really don't think we could afford even $8 per hour, which is weak. But I could use some summer help. I think it's been 2 years since I had a clerk.

Dude, I'd settle for $7, which was my starting pay at the Bucks. I don't need health insurance or anything complicated like that. I just need work that will pay me even a pittance.

OK. Not gonna hold out false hope or suggest you hold your breath, but we've got a big client who should pay soon, at which point I can crunch the books and figure out what we can afford for this summer. THEN I can pitch it to Boss and see if 1) he's interested and 2) if he'll just let me hire *you.* Keep looking and don't plan on us, but I'll see if I can make something happen. :)
