First off, a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] theemdash. I have pressies for you, but they are home and I am not, so they shall have to wait until tonight. :D

For your collective amusement, I shall now post a snippet of my ranting at [livejournal.com profile] starkravingsane about the Japanese art history textbook I'm currently reading (I'm on a break atm):

me: the hell does "mouse grey" mean?
her: uh
me: stupid artists and their inability to speak english
her: hazarding a guess, i'm gonna say it's the same grey as a little grey mouse
her: but, you know, i could be wrong
me: but "dark mouse grey"? really, not on
her: a slightly darker version thereof, then?
me: go. away.

me: ...how is it daring to just paint flowers?
me: oh, i see
me: nevermind
her: ?
me: let me see if i can explain this coherently, since the book is weird
me: the iris (flower) was always used in conjuction with a certain type of bridge, and was usually portrayed in painting, etc. with the bridge
me: this guy only painted the flowers, and in such a way that it gives the feel of walking along the bridge, looking at the flowers
me: something new! exciting! different!
me: actually, they're pretty

me: dude, they used clothing as room dividers
me: the japanese are insane
her: :-P
her: that's awful
me: what?
her: silly
me: they did! they'd hang a robe on a laquer hanger and put it on display between the screens
me: i'm not making this shit up

Alright, back to the books I go. And then to work on the J/D ficathon oh god, oh god, we're gonna die. Yeah, I'm totally going to get that done in time. [/sarcasm]
