Bits and Baubles

I'm tentatively calling the Yazmin a success, since the Red Army just invaded and I don't want to claw out any parts of my abdomen. Yay for that.

I guess you'd call it a Stargate SG-1/Matrix crossover, but not really. Taking place before the first Matrix movie, Jack, Daniel, Vala, and Walter live on a ship in the Real World, and have been tasked with rescuing Sam Carter, who can occasionally see the code of the Matrix around her. Cameos by characters from both SG-1 and the Matrix trilogy, and just a hint of Jack/Daniel for flavor. A really, really great read. No knowledge of SG-1 canon necessary, mild spoilers for the first Matrix movie.

I put in my first [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest fic yesterday, but I have an essay I want to write about my thought process behind it, so that should be up in a few hours. It's still rocktumbling in my head.

Now, to go put up some laundry and unpack some more. I feel like I'm living in a box factory, I swear.

Woot!

Insta!rec! All you Torchwood types should go read [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's Second City Torchwood. An experiment in the meta side of the Force fanfiction, Sam took on the idea of what Torchwood would be like if it was an American TV show. Spoilers through end of most recent season, must have at least working knowledge of New Doctor who through s3. Really worth the read.

Interview (for shift manager at work) went pretty well. I knew I was a shoe-in (is that how that's spelled?), but it's still nice to have your district manager tell you that you interviewed well. Should have definitive answer tomorrow.

Plus, I have my paycheck and my state tax return, so all is right with the world.

The remix is currently with the beta, and I'm hoping to have it posted up before I go to work today. Long, nasty shift (1:45p until closing, which means 10p usually), so you're all invited to visit me. *hint hint* I tend to ply my guests with coffee...

Also, insta!rec: In Civilized Parts by [livejournal.com profile] penknife, written for [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest. It wasn't that Jack grew up without any rules, but he's not sure he likes these. In his early teens, Jack Sparrow is sent to live with his aunt and uncle so he can get a 'prenticeship in an honest career. The story perfectly captures Jack's voice and his inability to fit into the social mores of living on land. Not incredibly long, non-graphic R, definitely worth the read.

And now to catch up on my poetry:

Some songs have the kinds of lyrics you ignore, or can't hear anyway, but some deserve to be written down in poetry books.

And your bones have been my bedframe. )
