melayneseahawk: (mortal peril)
Completely bored by food options yesterday, so had sickly-sweet flavored water and pop tarts for breakfast. Not exactly that of champions. I need to buy better cereal or baked goods or something.

Had a scare Sunday night: strong chemical smell in the basement. Firefighters came, and I tossed poor JJ in a laundry basket and went to a neighbor's, but turned out it was probably related to the fertilizer the landlord put down that morning. More excitement than I needed, to be sure.

Parents have been pushing for an appointment with my shrink for weeks, so we did that yesterday. Basically, he told them all the stuff that I'd been saying for months. If it sinks in this time, it'll be well worth the effort, though.

Have also handed out five extensions and have one dropout, though I've already found a pinch hit. I'm not going to jinx it. :D

Now to finish up history notes (test again on Friday) and get some writing done.

And speaking of [livejournal.com profile] jd_ficathon, anyone interested in betaing my fic in a few days?
melayneseahawk: (history)
Week before last, I took my first test of the semester, for American History (post-Civil War). Finally got them back yesterday, and not only did I get a 95% on the overall test, I got the highest possible score on the essay section. Reassuring, since I'd been worried that I'd written too much.

Though, one of my answers was so good the prof decided to use it as an example of the Perfect Answer. I'm peeved, because he just photocopied the sheet right out of my test packet, so it was in my handwriting. So much for doing things anonymously.

Is it unreasonable for me to be pissy about it? My insecurities, let me show you them.

In completely unrelated news, I've decided I like the current layout, though if anyone knows if there's a way to fix the blank space on the sides, I'd love to know.

Mostly, I just like the fact that the birds flying over the water are curly brackets. :D

Here, have a layout meme:

So, studying for astronomy final (at noon, kill me now), and I had a thought:

All semester, I've been amusing myself by picking apart episodes of my various sci-fi shows with my new knowledge of astronomy (yes, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing), and I'm debating writing up a post (or series of posts) about what they did wrong. I'd start, with black holes, and then maybe go on from there, but the issue is this: would anyone actually be interested?

I'd mostly be bashing Stargate and Atlantis, but there's definitely an episode of (new) Doctor Who that I'd take a crack at.

So, 'gaters, interested?

Yeah, so going to bed at 4a and then trying to get up at 9a? Not a happening thing.

Because I'm an idiot, here's my schedule for today:

1:15 - director's meeting
2:00-6:00 - rehearsal
6:16 - dinner
7:00 - go to performing arts library and watch Pericles as performed by Shakespeare Theatre some years ago
when I finish that - go back to dorm, shower, and do astronomy homework
??? - sleep <- probably not going to happen

A bit of amusement: Rosalind, Katherine, Hamlet, Lady Macbeth, and King Richard walk into a Chinese restaurant at the end of the universe.

And here, have a meme. )

More constructive posting when I'm procrastinating later.

...though there are moments when not even I am convinced of that fact.

I swear to God I haven't actually disappeared, I've just been having a freak-out induced period of reclusivity (yes, Firefox, that's not a word, but I don't care), wherein I only venture out to bake, rehearse, work bake-sales, and occasionally eat. There will be postage, I promise, but I have a rant building, so bear with me.

In other news, I don't even want to think about how far behind on NaNo I am right now. I decided that a novel just wasn't happening, so I decided to do short stories instead, but all I've written is a little more than 1000 words on the bus back home from the convention. I even have ideas, but the aforementioned freak-out has kept me from being constructive in any real way.

Oh, and dear LJ informs me that a few people have friended me recently. I promise, it's rather boring around here; the fic all lives on [livejournal.com profile] writers_island, and I'm as likely to post memes, bitching, and/or navel-gazing here than I am to post anything of any real use. Feel free to stick around anyway, I'm always glad to have new minions readers.

Chinese takeaway is due in about half an hour, so I'm going to pretend I'm working on my queer retelling of Puss in Boots (would the puss/pussy jokes be too easy if I did it as femmeslash?) and really play spider solitaire and stare at the wall.

Dear weather, make up your mind what season it is. I don't actually care which you pick, but mid-fall one week and high summer the next is all kinds of not cool.

So I think I make my ASTR TA uncomfortable. He's obviously an Orthodox Jew, and the first discussion I was wearing one of the lesbian t-shirts and then today I look kind of proto-goth (nails are still painting black from Monday, and I'm all in black and red, clothing-wise). I missed the two discussion sections in between, so I actually had to talk to him after class today, and he blatantly didn't look at me the whole time. Is it bad that I'm amused? Yeah, I know, I'm going to hell.

I'm not going to rant about C and the boyfriend (sounds like the name of a band: C and the Boyfriends :P), it just makes me too angry. She's a wonderful girl, why is she dating this bastard? ([livejournal.com profile] starkravingsane, you can't keep him anymore, he's a violent, manipulative dick). He had her in tears for hours last night, and had threatened to hurt his family and himself if she broke up with him. I want to help, but I have no idea what to do.

Yeah, so I'm camping out in the Art Library tonight in the hope I can gather enough images for the design project due 3:30 tomorrow. It's going to be pretty interesting. As in "Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die".

Oh, for anyone who wants a laugh: Melayne's Thoughts as She Ignores Her Lecture )

And now to discussion, where I'm sitting on the air conditioner. Nice.

So last night's fever broke sometime in the night, though I'm still feeling shivery, but off to class I go. Presentations (bleh again) in play analysis, then the massive break, and then a crash course in design research for design. Eh, whatever.

aka My Morning in Brief

~ the trio next to me in astronomy who spent the entire 50 minutes talking, and did not deign to even pretend to take notes. Would. Not. Shut. Up. even after I told them to keep it down. Eh, malevolent looks do a body good, right?

~ the chick who had to look stylist to go to class, at at 10a was already limping in her stiletto-heeled boots. Honey, if you can't walk in the shoes, you shouldn't be wearing them. That's why I only wear the heeled not-All-Stars when I'm going to be spending most of my time sitting.

~ all the girls who couldn't be bothered to check a weather report this morning, and then stand there in their tank tops and shorts and teeny skirts bitching about how cold it is. Weather.com is just a click away, ladies.

That was your morning dose of snark. Now back to your regularly-scheduled bitching.
